Why and how were the pyramids built, and how does it connect to the Egyptian religion/belief system?

The ancient Egyptians built pyramids as tombs to honor their pharaohs and queens. For the pharaohs they put valuable belongings in the tombs, believing that the pharaohs would need it for the afterlife.  To build a magnificent pyramid like the pyramids of Giza took a lot of hard work, and persistence. Rocks were quarried over 600 miles, and probably transported down on rafts along the Nile River. After transported through the Nile the stones were placed on sleds and pulled near the starting of the pyramid, where stones men prepared the slabs. Once the foundation of the four sides of the pyramid was set, layers of stone was placed. No one really knows how the heavy blocks were really placed on the pyramid, but a theory is that side ramps could have been built out of wood along the sides of pyramids. Other theories are there though.

How To Make A Mummy

Step #1

The first step is embalming. The person who died is taken to a tent called "ibu." there he is washed by embalmers with good smelling palm wine, and  rinsed the body water from the Nile.

Step #2

The enbalmers make a small slit in the let side of the body and removes all of the internal organs. It's important to remove them becasue they are the first to decompose. The liver, lungs, intestine, and stomach are washed and packed in natron. The heart is left inside the body becasue the man was beilved to need it for the afterlife. A long hook is placed through the nose so the embalmers can pull out the brain.

The body is covered and stuffed with natron, which will dry it out. All the fluids, and rags that were used during the embalming process will be saved and buried along with the body.

Step#3

After forty days the body is washed again with water fro the Nile River. Then it is covered with oils to keep the skin soft and elastic.

Step#4

Step#5

The dehydrated organs are wrapped in linen and put back inside the body. The body stuffed with linen, leaves, and sawdust to give more a likelike look.

The Egyptians had beliefs about the afterlife. They thought that after you ahd died you would still be alive and it would be better than actual life itself. In this primary source, you can see embalmers finishing up puttin the mummy in it's sarcophagus, and preparing for the ceromony of the opening of the mouth, before it is placed in it's tomb.
